memory – How to fix Fatal Error in wp-includes/meta.php after upgrade to PHP 8

Question

WP version 6.1.1
WooCommerce version 7.2.2

We just upgraded our staging site to PHP 8.0 as our host will require it in a couple of weeks. After the upgrade, adding a new post or product causes a fatal error:

“Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 20480 bytes) in /www/xxxxxx/public/wp-includes/meta.php on line 1189”

I disabled plugins one by one and individually tested each. It is random, it doesn’t seem to be a specific plugin conflict I could find.

I tried a different theme (Twenty Twenty-Three version 1.0) and it gave out even more errors.

Our memory is set at 256 and the maximum the host allows, so we need to find a solution for this as soon as possible.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
