Making a small modification to a standard block

I’d like to make a small change to the rendering in the latest posts block. Are the standard blocks intended to be customized or ‘subclassed’? To avoid having this turn into a pure matter of opinion, let me clarify that it seems likely to me that the Gutenberg architecture either does include an idea of extension points in blocks, or it does not.
