css – How to Determine What Size the HTML Element is Set At for Rem Calculations?

I’m using the Twenty Twenty One theme and would like to use rem units. If I understand correctly, 1 rem equals the size of the HTML element (which typically has a default value of 16px for most browsers). Is it safe to assume that the HTML element is 16px in this case? A font-size of, say, 1.25 rem in the CSS stylesheet doesn’t help me much if I don’t know what the size of the HTML element is that it’s based off of.

I can’t find a defined size for the HTML element in the CSS stylesheet, although I’m not certain if the size of the HTML element is determined by the stylesheet or by the browser. Can anyone tell me how to determine this information? I have a feeling this is a simple question and I’m just misunderstanding something.
