How to Install and Setup Facebook Comments in WordPress

Facebook is one of the largest social networks in the world which is why some sites use Facebook comments instead of the default WordPress comments. This allows you to let your users who use Facebook comment on your site without needing to fill out their information while logged in to Facebook. In this video, we will show you how to install and setup Facebook comments on your WordPress site.

For this guide, we’ll be using the Lazy Social Comments plugin you can find here:

We’ll need to do a bit of developer setup which means we’ll need to to to Facebook’s developer tools found here:

Under My Apps, we will want to click the Create App link for what our plugin needs.

With the plugin installed and activated, we will go to Settings, Lazy FB Comments in our admin area to set up the plugin. Select a name as well as the email you should be contacted at should there be an issue with your app. You may need to complete a safety check to ensure you’re not a robot.

In the Settings, Basic area we will scroll down to the Add Platform area, select website, and add the URL in the added website field. Save your changes and scroll up to copy the App ID to bring it back to your WordPress site to paste into the ID box.

The plugin’s settings will also give you customization options for loading more comments on click or on scroll. With that set up you can click Moderate Comments to moderate comments added through this method. In the page it brings up, you will be able to customize your moderation settings to limit how many days after the first comment until replies are locked. You’ll also have the ability to add other users to moderate the comments on your site.

  1. How much does it slow down your site? How many additional requests does it make and additional JavaScript files? What happens if you remove plugin? Lose all comments? Are these comments somewhere on facebook like our facebook biz page? It says post to facebook? Is it just in the users feed as a random comment? Can it be tied to our facebook biz page post? This is in a iframe or something correct, so it won't be cached or seen in google?

  2. What happens to the site's comment section? I mean do you have to replace it with the Facebook's comment app
